Step 1: Go to the Official Setup Page – Trézor.io/Start®

Before plugging in your device, open a browser and go to Trézor.io/Start — the official starting point for all Trézor® users. This ensures you’re downloading legitimate software and following accurate instructions.

Warning: Avoid setting up your device using third-party websites, unofficial apps, or YouTube tutorials unless directly linked from the official site. Doing so could expose you to scams or malicious firmware.

Step 2: Check the Packaging and Device Integrity

When unboxing your Trézor® wallet, confirm that:

  • The packaging is sealed and untampered
  • No recovery seed is pre-filled or written down
  • You purchased it from a trusted vendor or directly from Trézor.io

Trézor® devices never come with a pre-written recovery phrase. If yours does, it may be compromised. Do not use it.

Step 3: Connect Your Trézor® Device

Plug your Trézor® Model One® or Model T® into your computer or phone using the USB cable provided. The screen will power on and show a prompt.

Now, return to Trézor.io/Start® and follow the on-screen instructions.

You’ll be guided to install Trézor Suite® — the official desktop or web application that helps manage your device and crypto assets.

Step 4: Install Firmware and Initialize

After launching Trézor Suite®:

  1. The app will detect your device and prompt you to install the latest firmware (if it’s new).
  2. Once updated, select “Create new wallet.”
  3. Choose the type of recovery seed you want (standard 12-word or advanced 24-word).
  4. Write down your recovery seed, in order, using the Trézor-provided recovery card.

This seed is your ultimate backup. It can recover all your crypto if the device is lost or destroyed. Never photograph or type it on a connected device. Store it offline and in a secure place.

Step 5: Set a Strong PIN

You’ll now be asked to create a PIN code to protect your Trézor® from unauthorized access. The PIN will be entered each time the device is connected.

Tips:

  • Use at least 6 digits
  • Avoid repeating or predictable patterns
  • Never share your PIN with anyone

If the wrong PIN is entered multiple times, the device will initiate a security lockout feature, increasing delay time after each failed attempt.

Step 6: Add Accounts and Manage Crypto

Once setup is complete, Trézor Suite® will guide you to:

  • Add accounts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and hundreds of other coins
  • View balances and recent transactions
  • Receive and send crypto with full control

To receive crypto:

  • Choose the asset and click “Receive”
  • Copy your address and verify it on your Trézor® screen
  • Share the verified address safely

To send:

  • Enter the recipient’s wallet address
  • Confirm the amount and fees
  • Verify all transaction details on your Trézor® device before approving

Every transaction must be physically confirmed on the device to ensure no malware or remote attacker can move your funds.
